Abies are evergreen conifers, widespread in Asia, Central America, Europe, North America and North Africa. Often very tall, with spiralled branches bearing flattened, linear leaves. The seed-cones stand upright on the branches unlike Spruces which have pendulous cones. Young cones are very eye-catching, ranging in colours from white, green, blueish violet and a purple red.

Abies Concolor 'Wintergold' is a very slow-growing, as it matures a pyramidal conifer with grey bark and flattened needles that are yellow-green in the spring turning bright gold in winter. The needles also have a great lemony scent. An unusual addition to all gardens.
