Podocarpus can be evergreen shrubs or trees, with spirally arranged leaves which may be linear or narrowly lanceolate. Found in the wild in Chile where conversion from natural to plantation forest has seen a substantial decline in the population size and distribution.

Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery, Podocarpus 'Guardsman' is a new introduction, grows with a more upright habit and the foliage turns an interesting and distinctive coppery-reddish colour in winter.
