Native to Japan where they are revered as the national tree. Cryptomeria Japonica are large evergreen trees with attractive red-brown bark and dense foliage consisting of short awl-shaped leaves arranged spirally around the branchlets; cones are spherical.
Details
Cryptomeria japonica 'Black Dragon' grows vigorously in youth, and then its growth slows and fills with more compact foliage and branches as this conifer ages. The light green new growth becomes a deep dark green and in winter maintains the darkest green almost black. On of our favourite Japanese cedars and great for a small garden or container.
