Larches are conifers in the genus Larix, of the family Pinaceae. They are native to much of the cooler temperate northern hemisphere, on lowlands in the north and high on mountains further south. Larches are among the dominant plants in the boreal forests of Siberia and Canada. Although they are conifers, larches are deciduous trees that lose their needles in the autumn.

Larix decidua 'Krejci' is a very unusual larch with irregular branches with twisted or sometimes contorted stems. It is deciduous and has bright green and soft needles in Spring and Summer (sometimes in clumps) turning shades of golden yellow before falling in autumn. This was a bit of a showstopper in our Chelsea 2019 floral marquee display.  It came to being as a root sprout found by Mr Krejci in Czech Republic in 1984. Hand grafted and propagated at Lime Cross Nursery.
